The Black Dog of Wells studio workshop is situated in the heart of the beautiful City of Wells, Somerset. We create and market a unique range of intricate handcrafted bas relief tiles in natural terracotta which are full of detail and texture. These wall tiles are designed by prominent artist/designer Philippa Threlfall, who for many years has been making decorative tiles and ceramic murals which can be seen all over the country. Venues range from heritage sites, such as Hestercombe Garden at Taunton and Muchelney Abbey near Langport, to the Tithe Barn at Cotley near Chard and the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton. Of course, there will also be many exhibitions and events take place in public locations, in Village Halls, cafes, hotels, galleries etc.
A wide range of media is represented from 3D materials, such as ceramics, textiles, wood, stone, metal and glass, to 2D media such as painting, drawing, photography, digital technology, as well as installations and live/performance art. There is, certainly, something for everybody to see, touch, take part in, have a go or simply watch and enjoy. And, it is all free!
