Civic Walk - a chance to hear about everyday life over the centuries in the civic part of our city, including our historic markets and fairs.
Countryside Ramble - your guide will show you the local beauty spots. Lasts 2-3 hrs. Stout footwear only please. Prices will vary depending on the length of the walk.
Foodie Walk – you will learn about food past and present, and how it has shaped the Wells you see today. Why not end your walk with a fantastic meal at the Crown. The Crown’s menus, served in both Anton’s Bistrot and the Penn Bar, are a blend of modern and classic dishes, using the finest, seasonal ingredients from Wells and further afield in Somerset. Last year The Crown won accolades from both the Taste of the West, as well as the Taste of Somerset, in recognition of the locally sourced produce on the menus. Local ales and ciders available too.

Wells Moat Walk: The Black Dog of Wells have compiled a fascinating circular walk around the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace moat, which takes about half an hour. During this you will see various unusual aspects of the city and also come right past their studios on Tor Street. We have maps on reception.
Walks: With a myriad of wonderful walks within a very short distance, it’s difficult to know where to start!
Five minutes from The Crown are walks across the Palace Fields, to the Palace Woods in one direction and Tor Woods in the other direction.
A little further afield are walks across the Mendips and over the Somerset Levels.
We have footwear drying facilities, as well as local maps. Meals and refreshments are served in Anton’s Bistrot and the Penn Bar until 9pm. We will send you off in the morning with a hearty breakfast and are also able to provide you with a packed lunch.
