The Annual Wells Charity Boules organised by the Rotary Clubs of Avalon and Wells
Thirteen years ago, a group of Rotarians from Avalon and Wells took a trip and a trek out to a remote area in North Nepal. We were there to see, first hand, the projects supported by The Nepal Trust and to help build a much-needed health centre. We were determined this would not be a ‘one-off’ and the desire to support the projects we’d seen by raising money for The Nepal Trust. Someone came up with the idea of an annual Boules Tournament and the rest is history.
Since 2000, the money we’ve raised from the Boules, the shape of team fees, piste sponsorship and other sources, has exceed an amazing £70,000 for The Nepal Trust. Local families, businesses, Rotarians and Boules enthusiasts make up forty-eight teams, playing throughout the day from 9.30am, with the final at 5.00pm. Members of the Rotary Clubs of Avalon and Wells transform the area outside Wells Town Hall into Boules Pistes, complete with bar, al fresco buffet lunch and jazz band to provide the background music.
The entry cost per team is £95.00. Four players per team can play at any one time, however, you can have as many members per team as you wish, rotating your team players to ensure everyone has a chance to play. Team fees include four tickets for our delicious buffet lunch, as well as four tickets for coffee and croissant. Additional lunch tickets are available to purchase in advance at £11.00 per person and coffee/croissant tickets at £3.00 per person. Tea and coffee are available all day too.
Another way to support Wells Charity Boules is to sponsor a Boules Piste. The cost is £100.00 per piste for which your sponsorship is acknowledged with an A3 board at the end of the piste bearing your company name and logo. Alternatively (or in addition to!), we’d be grateful to any organisation able to provide a prize for our raffle. When you enter a team, sponsor a piste, enter the raffle or buy drinks on the day, you will be contributing to make a difference to people’s lives in Nepal.
Click on the links for a team application form, along with a piste sponsor form and we’d be grateful if you could complete and return either or both, with payment, as soon as possible please, to me at the address below. Closing date for applications will be end of June, 2013. If you have any queries, please speak to either myself or Sara Blair at The Crown.
We always look forward to the Boules and do hope you’ll join us.
All the best, Adrian Lawrence – Wells Rotary Club
