The 12th Annual Wells Charity Boules – July, 2012
organised by the Rotary Clubs of Avalon and Wells
Seems like only yesterday we were organising our first Wells Charity Boules tournament, but we’re up to number twelve!
Back in 2000, the idea for the boules tournament followed a trip to Nepal by a group of Rotarians from Avalon and Wells. We came back with the determination to raise money for The Nepal Trust to support the projects we’d seen, whilst having fun at the same time; hence the boules. We’ve subsequently revisited Nepal in 2007 and were back in Autumn last year to help with the rebuilding of Torpa Health Clinic, which is now up and running.
In the past twelve years, the money we’ve raised from team fees, piste sponsorship and other sources is an amazing £55,000 for The Nepal Trust. If you require any further information about the work they do, or would like to participate on a ‘Trek to Build’, please do get in touch with me.
Forty-eight teams, of local families, businesses, Rotarians and Boules enthusiasts, will compete throughout the day. Play commences at 9.30am, with the final at 5.00pm.
Members of the Rotary Clubs of Avalon and Wells will again be transforming the area outside Wells Town Hall into Boules Pistes, complete with bar, al fresco buffet lunch and jazz band to provide the background music.
The entry cost per team is £95.00. Four players per team can play at any one time, however, you can have as many members per team as you wish, rotating your team players to ensure everyone has a chance to play.
Team fees include four tickets for our superb buffet lunch, as well as four tickets for coffee and croissant. Additional lunch tickets are available to purchase in advance at £11.00 per person and coffee/croissant tickets at £3.00 per person. Tea and coffee are available all day too.
Another way to support Wells Charity Boules is by sponsoring a Boules Piste. The cost is £100.00 per piste for which your sponsorship is acknowledged with an estate agent type board at the end of the piste bearing your company name and logo. Alternatively (or in addition to!), we’d be grateful to any organisation able to provide a prize for our raffle.
When you enter a team, sponsor a piste, enter the raffle or buy drinks on the day, you will be helping people far less fortunate than ourselves.
There are links to team application forms, along with a piste sponsor forms above. We’d be grateful if you could return either or both completed forms, with payment, as soon as possible please, to me at the address below. Closing date for applications will be end of June, 2011. If you have any queries, please speak to either myself or Sara Blair at The Crown.
We’re really looking forward to this year’s Boules and do hope you’ll join us.
Yours sincerely,
Adrian Lawrence – Wells Rotary Club
